We left Bone Island and headed back to Port Severn the northwest end of the Trent Severn Waterway. As we got near Port Severn we saw our old friends Lee and Jeanne on Lanea Jane a 36 ft Monk trawler. They got bad news as we were exiting the lock that the marine railway was not hauling boats over 11 feet wide until Monday and this was Friday morning. So we did not get to travel together as we planned, they had to stay until Monday to get on the railway. (also known as the big chute)

The Trent Severn Waterway has 44 locks and we had proceeded through 44 going northwest and now we are headed southeast on the waterway through the same locks. Not a lot of pictures going southeast. However we had a few memorable events. We met another MacGregor owner and they invited us to their home on Rice Lake. While there we got to enjoy their wood fired sauna out by the lake. We sat in the sauna at 176 degrees (80 C) until we could not take it any longer. We all jumped into the lake which was 10 feet away from the sauna. We then bathed in the 73 degree water, when cooled off we went back into the sauna for a couple of minutes to warm up. They invited us up to their home for dinner. I made a big fresh green salad and they served us filet mignon steaks. We each shared our story, all enjoying the evening together. A few days later, just as we left the Trent we met up with them again for supper in Napanee.

We also met up with another couple from Big Pine Key Florida on our return down the Trent. We had some nice times with them as we met up at different places, as we travel at different speeds with different interests.

The third couple we met at the fuel dock at Trent Port Marina. We had briefly met them in Kingston, Ontario a few days before we started up the Trent. As we were chatting and catching up with them we told them we were headed for the St. Lawrence Seaway. Planning to visit the 1000 Islands area. They said they owned 2 small islands with a house and a couple of docks in the 1000 Islands area and invited us to stop by for a couple of nights. So we said thanks and will be headed there in a few days.

We have met so many nice folks on this trip besides the ones above and we thank all of you for your kindness and generosity. A big thank you goes out to Parks Canada, their friendly employees, parks around lock walls and islands that we have enjoyed visiting.

Our journey is not over but we will be leaving Canada in a few days.

  1. Hello Cuz,

Thank you for the stories and pictures. Michele and I are enjoying them. They do in a way make us home sick for the lakes and rivers up there. We really loved the Thousand Island area. If you get the chance we recommend the 1000 Island Winery located there in Alexandria Bay. It is worth going to and shopping at. They have some very good wines that they produce. If you get the chance please include a picture or two of Bolt Castle there in A-Bay. Prayers for fair skies and smooth sailing for the both of you two love birds. Take care and God Bless.

P.S. If you are coming our way please let us know. You are welcome to stay in our spare bedroom and have dinner/laundry and stuff for as long as you want. We still live a stones throw from the canal and would love to have your company.
